using a 110v chandelier from the States in 220v country?

Question by melsraiders2004: using a 110v chandelier from the States in 220v country?
I have a 110v chandelier that I have used in my home in the States. I would like to use that chandelier in my home overseas that is wired for 220v. To use the chandelier in 220v is the only thing thah I have to do is change the bulbs? There are no fans or motors. The chandelier is only lights.

yup. But follow the limits of the fixture for the wattage for the bulbs that you use

    NO NO NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    The North America 120 volt system used two wires (line and neutral) and a bare ground. All neutral wires and the ground wires are attached in the breaker panel.
    In a 220 volt circuit there is no neutral wire. If you try use the chandelier on a 220 volt circuit you will blow the breaker because the chandelier neutral wire is common to the metal frame of the chandelier which should be grounded. If there is no ground then the metal frame of the chandlier will be at 220 volts and anyone touching it will be exposed to that voltage.

    You may find that you have to modify the chandelier to accommodate the change.

    The base on a 220 volt bulb may not be the same as the 110 bulbs, (some use a bayonet-type lock, instead of screw-in) so you will have to get new sockets and wire them in properly..
